I caught my “Rover Fever” back in 1978 when I made a trip out to Idaho during the Perseids meteor shower.

Actually, I was just a station operator, all the other trivial logistics such as cost, survival, and transportation were made possible through the selfless efforts of Steve, WB9YUN and Mitch, WA9TRY.  Their skills most certainly prevented me from being eaten by bears or driving off the side of a mountain!

This was before the days of WSJT of course, so all contacts were made on SSB or CW.   We also stopped in Wyoming to work Dave, K1WHS for his 50th state on 2 meters, It was the new moon, so Dave told me to aim my portable EME array at the SUN!   His signal was several dB above the sun noise that day!

Below are some pictures of the meteor scatter station located at about 8,000′ feet overlooking Bear Lake, Idaho, consisting of 2 F9FT yagis, and the EME station in Medicine Bow Pass, Wyoming  which added two more F9FT’s and an Armstrong elevation control.
